Summer Exhibition

Last Friday, en route from Devon to Leicestershire, I had the delightful opportunity to visit a Summer Exhibition. This wasn't just any exhibition - it was a vibrant artistic carnival featuring an array of talented artists. Nestled amidst my travels, this detour served as a nourishing visual feast, one that I am eager to share with my interior design enthusiasts.

The exhibition showcased a wide range of art forms - from captivating rugs to mesmerizing paintings, expressive ceramics to beautifully trimmed cushions, each piece was a testament to the artists' creativity and passion. The uniqueness of each item was truly a sight to behold, offering a myriad of design inspirations and filling the space with a dynamic energy.

As I strolled through the exhibition, I was struck by the sheer diversity and richness of the artwork on display nearly 120 paintings. Each piece told a different story, each artist brought a unique perspective to the table. The result was a harmonious blend of styles, aesthetics, and narratives that breathed life into the exhibition space.

The rugs, for example, were not just floor coverings but pieces of art in their own right. The diverse patterns, colours, and textures on display offered a wealth of inspiration for interior design, proving that a rug can indeed tie a room together.

The paintings were equally captivating. From abstract pieces that sparked imagination to more realistic depictions that captured the nuances of everyday life, each painting added a unique flair to the exhibition. The range of styles and techniques on display was a testament to the versatility and creativity of the artists.

As for the ceramics, they were as expressive as they were functional. Each piece was a blend of form and function, demonstrating the artist's skill and craftsmanship. Whether it was a vase with an intricate design or a minimalist bowl, the ceramics were a testament to the beauty that can be found in everyday objects.

Kirsty Erskine Hill's work features hand-painted trays, waste paper bins, and tissue boxes, all essential home items. These pieces are painted in a vibrant and lively Charleston style, demonstrating a unique artistic flair.

The cushions, trimmed to perfection, were another highlight. Showcasing a range of hand printed designs by Rapture & Wright from bold patterns to subtle hues, they were more than just comfort pieces. They were a clear demonstration of how attention to detail can transform a simple cushion into a statement piece. Each sofa or settle was crammed with exciting designs in bright colourful fabrics and pom pom trimmings.

In short, the Summer Exhibition was a treasure trove of inspiration, a testament to the power of creativity, and a clear illustration of the profound impact that art can have on interior design. I left the exhibition with a renewed sense of inspiration and a notebook full of ideas for my upcoming projects. I can't wait to incorporate some of these elements into my designs and share the results with you!

The exhibition will now stay up for the next few months and for anyone who missed the opening, you are welcome to come and see it another time by appointment, just drop them an email.
